What Do Lower Abdominal And Flank Pain Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jan 2017
Question: Hello,

I had abdominal surgery November 4 for a small bowel obstruction in my lower right bowel.
For the last two weeks, I have had flank pain and excruciating pain in my lower abdomen. The doctors treated me for a kidney infection, but I have had no improvement.
The last doctor I saw believes I have adhesions from my surgery.
For the past 24 hours, I'm throwing up every time I eat, having intermittent painful diarrhea (very dark), painful gas, bloating, and excruciating pain.
Should I return to the ER? Will they be able to do anything? I don't have insurance until XXXXXXX 1, so I cannot see s PCP.

Brief Answer:
You need to see an ER soon as adhesions leading to obstruction is suspected

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through. Based on the history you have shared, the initial symptoms could have been adhesions along ureters leading to those pressure symptoms in the flanks and kidneys. Now since you have developed the symptoms like bloating and vomitings and not tolerating well orally so gut adhesions should also be ruled which may present at start with small amounts of diarrhea followed by constipation.

Also renal functions needs to be tested as vomitings, diarrhea followed by short history of kidney pains need evaluation for Uremic symptoms caused by acute kidney injury due to any cause. With these symptoms you can approach any nearby medical facility ER and they will take these symptoms seriously.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
