What Do My ANA Test Results Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Jun 2016
Question: I just got an ana test back. It was 1:80 with a homogeneous pattern. In the past it has tested 1:160.
I recently had a strange thing happen to me when on a trip. I got a case of very bad indigestion with sharp pain across my upper abdominal area. I was burping terribly. I was very sensitive to light. I made myself try to sleep but after about 2 hours I woke up in a dripping cold sweat, nauseous, lightheaded, and vomiting. I had a difficult time keeping my eyes open. I had a low grade fever. I did not have any diarrhea. I got nauseous any time my head got elevated at all. I had slight jaw pain. I was admitted into the hospital. My white count was 22. They did not come up with a diagnosis. I was released the following day. I know the symptoms mimic a heart attack in women but my EKG was normal. I have had a few bouts of indigestion since that time but none that were to that extent. They said they do not feel it was abdominal flu or food poisoning. Could I possibly have lupus or what may cause this type of reaction. I have other mild reactions similar but not nearly as bad within the past year. I also have Graves my my levels are perfect right now.

Brief Answer:
Not a cause for concern. Needs no intervention.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

The mentioned problems are not associated with ANA positivity. In any case, 1:80 is a lower titre as compared to 1:160 and so there is less reason to get concerned. ANA positivity can be found in persons with autoimmune diseases like Grave's disease and it is a simple non specific antibody. Unless you have specific autoimmune presentations, you need not get concerned about the ANA positivity.
