What Do My TSH Values In My Lab Reports Indicate?

Question : I have been having unexplained episodes of heart palpitations, chest pain, left arm weirdness - not pain. I have had an echocardiogram, stress test on treadmill, chest xray, lots of bloodwork and everything is fine. However, I noticed that my TSH level was 4.02 from the ER lab report. My previous TSH levels for 2013, 2014, and 2015 were 2.22, 2.22, and 2.12 respectively. I have read that there is debate about the range for TSH. Should i follow up more closely with my doctor? BTW, my doctor prescribed me xanax and basically told me i'm caught in a cycle of making myself more anxious. This could be true, I guess but heart palps out of the blue just don't really settle with me.
Brief Answer:
I do not think you need to worried
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.
The symptoms described above is just opposite of what you get in high TSH. I meant to say that currently there are no symptoms of any thyroid abnormality and current TSH is within normal range. The debate is for higher TSH and there is no debate about TSH level around 4 so the current TSH is withing normal range and there is no second question at this point of time.
I think your doctor is right as symptoms are indicative of anxiety and likely to respond to xanax.
I hope this helps you.
Thanks and regards.
