Brief Answer:
Lupus flare

Detailed Answer:
good evening

thank you for writing on health care magic

Well. there is a possibility of a disease flare after an viral infection, it can be a simple cold cough or can be due to your Epstein Barr virus. Since lupus and crohns are both autoimmune disease it can trigger them both causing flare of the symptoms. But the flare is usually short lasting. You need to increase your steroids for a short course to help it settle down.

If you could throw some more light on what symptoms you are experiencing and how severe is your lupus, it would be helpful

hope the information was useful

I'm 57 and I have been blessed in that this is the first time I have taken an type of Lupus Medication. I have gastrointestinal issues and bleeding from the rectum. 7 BM per day. I have Chrons and Colitis and am trying to figure out if I should go ahead with flex sigmoidoscopy on Monday or is it enough information to just move ahead and take the steroids. I have only taken them a couple times during my Chrons flares. In December I had biopsies on my head that were confirmed Lupus and that's when I started Plaqueinl for the first time ever. Low dose on in the am one at night. I thought the diarrhea was a side effect of the med then I started bleeding. However my blood counts were fairly normal. You mentioned Epstein Bar which I have had in the past are the elevated abs monos because of that? My niece was home at Christmas and had mono. At the end of the day my question is us the flex sigmoidoscopy necessary?

Brief Answer:
Crohns flare

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Thanks for your reply

Well, your disease looks flared up right now. 7 bowels along with bleeding is an indication for active intervention. Yes, monocytes can be elevated with any viral infection.

As for sigmoidoscopy, I would suggest it is advisable to go for it and get a biopsy done as well. A lot of times crohns get transformed to malignancy or there could be an infection in the intestine, which is another cause for flare despite treatment. So one, needs to be sure how active the disease is and is there any other cause we are missing.... My suggestion would be to go for it and ask them to take a biopsy as well. No point of sigmoidoscopy alone
