What Do My Blood Test Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 16 Mar 2016
Question: Recently, I had a blood test showing an elevated level of calcium. ....10.7. About a week later another test showed a level of 10.1 at the top of normal. a PTH test resulted in a 53.3 level with the top of normal being 65. From my reading on the internet, High calcium and any PTH lever that is not low indicated hyperthyroidism. Where do I go from here since the PTH level showed within the normal range. Is there not a level of concern that should be on my part? I know there is a XXXXXXX facility in XXXXXXX General. A consultation is around $800.00 to make sure you have the problem. Also, bone density test show some loss and previous Vit D test a deficiency ...now taking more Vit D.Seeing just my family physician who usually refers to me to who ever is needed. Because the calcium is within range on the PTH, I am concerned it will be overlooked.

Brief Answer:
Findings indicate mildly raised calcium level.I

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Findings indicate marginally raised calcium level. It may be due to many reasons and generally it is not concerning.
I don't think there is any reason to be worried about.
Hyperthyroidism is associated with many clinical features.I don't think you have any symptoms like palpitation, increased heart rate, sweating etc.Since PTH level is normal,it is most likely not related to marginally raised calcium level.
You are rightly taking vitamin D supplementation.
In short, don't worry at all. This much raised calcium level is acceptable.
However,you may need clinical correlation.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.
