Question : I want to know if my baby is safe or not. As mentioned in the report, her Hb is 7.7 and ESR value is 75. In urine report, it was mentioned that the albumin is in traces and pus cells are in range 8-10. Please let me know her condition and if any other tests must be performed. Also let me know what kind of food must be taken. She weighs less than 9 kgs.

Brief Answer:
Do not worry. It is a treatable condition.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone very carefully through the provided details as well as the attached reports. It appears to me that your child has an urinary tract infection. ESR is a non-specific indicator that indicates that something is not right. However, you anyway know that things are not alright as the child is having fever. In presence of fever with chills, we will consider a pus cell count of 8-10/hpf to be indicative of urinary tract infection. In other words, you can assume the infection to be specifically located in the urinary tract. It is a treatable condition and should resolve by the time the course of antibiotics is completed. Also give plenty of water and fluids to drink.

The hemoglobin level is quite low and proper iron supplementation is essential. I do not see any role of blood transfusion unless there are definite indications.

There is no restriction of food. She can have anything low in spices and in mashed form. The birth weight triples by 10-12 months of age. So, I guess that her weight is up to the mark.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards

Thank you for your response. Can you please suggest what food must be given to my kid. The doctor we approached told us that he would give her an injection after the infection is cleared. Is it safe to give an injection to rise her Hb level? Also please suggest what food must be given to her.

Brief Answer:
Injection safe to be given

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

The following link will give you an idea about what to give to your baby:

The mentioned injection could be either erythropoeitin or parenteral iron supplement. Both are safe to be given.

Get back to me if you have further query.
