Question : I have high body temperature for about 20 days now. So, I had Master Health Check done at Hospital. All are normal except some that are found abnormal are RAISED PLBS 189, SGPT 121, LDL 121 AND FATTY LIVER AND CXR PA VIEW SHOWS RIGHT LOWER ZONE SOFT TISSUE OPACITY.

I want to know how serious is the X RAY CHEST PA result as given above. Can it be a cause of my strange fever this time? The fever I feel this time is not like influenza or seasonal infection fever. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Require evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
Fever of such long duration with these findings in chest X-ray is suggestive of any of the following two diagnosis:
1. Pulmonary Tuberculosis
2. Bacterial Pneumonia.
I would advice you following investigations further :
1. CT chest.
2. Sputum for AFB, Gram stain and culture.
Once the reports are available in a day or two, we would decide the further course of action needed.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.

I had done CT Scan thrice in my life, twice in the year 2003 and once in the year 2012 all on my neck. Apart from that for the last 5 years, examination like Upper endoscopy, ultrasound and Chest X-Ray are taken 2/3 times every year. Now, I'm afraid of radiation. So, instead of CT Scan, can there be other ways to diagnose with like MRI and others. Doctor please advise me once again. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Go for sputum examination.

Detailed Answer:
Hi. In that case you can simply go for Sputum examination as discussed.
It would give a clear picture that you need Tuberculosis medicines or antibiotics for bacterial pneumonia.
But sputum examination is compulsory in your case.
Get it tested and write back to me with reports.
If you have any further query, please ask me.
