What Do My Lab Test Reports Indicate?

Posted on Tue, 17 May 2016
Question: About 10 days ago, was feeling feverish and some bitterness in my mouth. I also was feeling weakness and body pains. When i took paracetamol it became okay. I was feel cold as well. I had burning while urinating.

I was asked to take two tests (blood and urine) and those are attached. The doctor told me to take 1 tab of Ciprobay 500 twice a day and the course completed on Friday.

I now have cough which coming with green sputum. I am currently feeling body pains. It seems there is no effect of the antibiotic. If it is a virus it has been 10 days now. I have no fever. Temperature is normal. There is no burning in urine.

Brief Answer:
Likley urinary infection from the reports.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
welcome to HCM.

I have read your query and reviewed the reports.

From urine report (pus cells-20 to 25) and high ESR (90) ,it is likely evident that you still have silent urinary infection means without clinical symptoms (no burning urine,no fever).

It could be because of antibiotics which you have taken earlier with other symptomatic treatment.

Also,I am NOT in the favor of taking CIPROBAY 500 (ciprofloxacin 500mg) twice daily for 5 days.

Rather Ciprofloxacin 750mg or 1000 mg (2 tablets of 500mg) daily (once at a time) for at least 2 weeks.

Levofloxacin 750 mg or 1000 mg is slightly better antibiotic than ciprobay especially in the treatment of urinary infection.

In urinary infection antibiotics must be given for at least 10 to 15 days (and NOT for only 5 days) in appropriate dosages to get rid off infection completely.

Now,you should go for blood culture or urine culture after 72 hours of ingestion of your last antibiotic.

After the culture report (if comes positive which is likely here) you will need to take antibiotic medications as I mentioned for which you should see physician or urologist who will know about it.

For,cough with green sputum you can take Mucinex-dm (available over the counter) which contains Dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant in combination with Guaifenesin, an expectorant which helps to loosen congestion in your chest or throat and making it easier for mucus/phlegm to cough out through mouth. It is much better than pectoral cough syrup.

And for body pain, pain killer like ibuprofen 400 mg or paracetamol will be helpful.

Hope this detailed explanation will be helpful.
