Question: Hello, The query is for my Grandmother who is 79 yrs old. she had high BP roughly 2 week back. It was 210/100 mm Hg. The doctor gave her 1 tablet of Amlong 5mg. After few min, BP came to normal range. Doctor also advised for ECG which came normal. Doctor also advised for FBS, TSH & CBC. I am attaching the report herewith. I need your help to review the reports & then share your view.

Brief Answer:
monitor BP, Repeat TSH.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir
1. Despite the fact that her blood pressure is normal without any medication at present and she is doing fine, we must monitor her blood pressure regularly. This may be done as frequently as daily for initial one week and thereafter 23 times a week. It should be checked nearly at same time of day.You must not measure BP at least for one hour after tea, meals, coffee, exertion or exercise. You must not measure it when patient has acute physical or mental stress like headache or a domestic feud. If majority of readings are higher than 150/90mmHg then she may require medication.
2. Her reports suggests hypothyroid status. However it needs to be confirmed by repeated testing and you must seek an endocrinology opinion.
Feel free to discuss further.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder

Thanks for the reply Doctor Singh! I will keep a check on her BP for next few weeks. I am planning to buy a digital arm BP monitor (Morepen OR Omron) for the same. Hope they give accurate readings. Any advice from your end in this regard?

Can you please advice a endocrinology opinion through Health Care Magic OR do I need to initiate a separate question for that?

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir
1. Any of the two BP instruments will be good enough for home monitoring.
2. You have to start a fresh question for endocrinologist.
