What Do My Lab Test Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Apr 2017
Question: Hi,

How reliable are tridot rapid hiv1&2 test after 7 weeks for a healthy individual with a normal immune system, not having any other health concerns?
Also, if no hiv symptoms are present how likely it is that that tridot hiv negative test might turn positive after 12 weeks?
Although i am sure the risk involved was negligible, was still getting anxious at my mind.
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (53 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
The test is more than 95% reliable.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Eddyqwerty,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

HIV 1&2 rapid tridot test after 7 weeks of exposure is highly reliable and accurate so don't get anxious or feared because the possibility of negative result being turned positive after 12weeks is very unlikely. So be relaxed, forget the episode and move ahead in life happily.

For any query, feel free to get back to me again at any time.

Thank You

Hi Doc,
Thanks a lot.
Could there be any chances of clerical error in clinics while performing tridot test?

Your answer relieved me. Thanks

No chance at all.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Eddyqwerty,

Welcome back and thanks for follow-up.

Hi Doc,
I am about to get engaged in a couple of months. Thats why i have been so anxious about an incident last week.
I had been over to my friends place and one thing led to another, and we eventually hooked up and had vaginal sex.
I was using a condom, during the intercouse and i was checking frequently whether the condom is still on. So when i was checking i tried to slide the condom further during which it snapped. I immediately replaced the condom with a new one and we continued having sex.
Later in the day i got anxious, and it seems like my ex-gf had a unprotected sexual relationship with her fiance.
I inmediately asked her to get checked for STD. Her VDRL was non reactive, and tridot hiv1&2 negative. The test was carried out on 7weeks after her previous unprotected encounter with her fiance.

That had got me worried. What are the chances i might be infected?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (46 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
There is no chance of infection.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Eddyawerty,

Welcome to HCM once again.

As per the details your gf also had protected sex in her past exposure with her fiance and she was also negative for HIV as well as STD than there is surely no chance of getting HIV infection in any way. You need not to worry because you are 100% risk free.

Thanks a lot Doc.
She seemed to have unprotected sex with her fiancee.
Although, she was very sure she was clean.
On seeing my anxiety, she got herself tested with a negative triodot after 7 weeks. Also, she doesnt have any minutest symptoms of it.

Detailed Answer:

Reading online about condom failures, and false negatives about tridot after 7 weeks made me anxious i guess.
Felt relieved consulting you.
doctor

Detailed Answer:

Avoid searching much online as it will create more confusion nothing else. The possibility of the false negative result is absolutely not there so allay the fear or anxiety and forget about the past episode.

Thanks doc.
The thing i was getting anxious was the condom failure for a very breif time.(although i am not sure whether penetration happened during that time).
And since the girl had unprotected sex 7 weeks before.
I am getting nervous even though she tested negative on tridot after 7 weeks.

Should i opt for any early test to clear of my anxiety?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (35 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
You can go for 4th generation HIV Duos test.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Eddyqwerty,

Your partner is negative after 7 weeks of exposure and you at also negative then why to get bothered or anxious because you are 100% safe from HIV so just calm down, forget about the past incidence.

Its only been 10 days for me of the encounter.
Do rna pcr tests suffice? I read somewhere there is a high chance for false positives in pcr test.

I was planning on taking a pcr test and put the thoughts to rest.

Your suggestions on this doc?

Also i read online that chances of false positives are higher.

You have been very helpful.

Also, in case of an infection the antigens would have been detectable by 3rd week?

Coupled with the very low exposure, a 4 week duo test would be conclusive?
doctor

Brief Answer:
Yes definitely.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Eddyqwerty,

HIV Duos test after 4 weeks is definitely conclusive in case of low risk exposure and antigens against the infection are detectable at 3 weeks if present in blood so calm down, forget about the episode and move on in life. Always stay happy and healthy.

Got the results for both antigen and antibody as non reactive after 4 weeks.(duo test architect method)

I had a negative cmia method after 3 weeks and a negative with architect method after 4 weeks. (Both duo 4th gen test)

Could i consider this conclusive? Or is an antibody test needed agter 3 months?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (13 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
You need to go for an antibody test.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Eddyquerty,

You had negative Duos test at 4 weeks as well as negative CMIA test at 3 weeks then these results are highly reliable and conclusive but still as per the guideline you need to go for an antibody test after 3 months to get 100% conclusive result.

Hi Dox,

Just a general curiosity.
28 day negative duos test would have definitely ruled out HIV1 infection, correct?

As per as HIV2 , i read in a couple of posts, that sometimes even HIV2 has a cross reaction that can generate p24 antigen, which is why most countries consider 4 week negative duo test as conclusive.

What are your opinions on these claims?
And have you seen a 4 week negative duo test turning positive later?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (11 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
HIV 2 is very uncommon in XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Dear Eddyqwerty,

As far as cross infection with HIV 2 is concerned then it is very rare in XXXXXXX and commonly found in West XXXXXXX region so don't get worried for that. The chances of 4 week negative Duos test turning positive is also very unlikely so be relaxed, forget about the episode and move on in life happily.

Hi Doc,

I was going across a few blogs, which say that most of the times(90%) even HIV-2 can be detected in the hiv duo test for the antigen part.
Due to the similarities in the molecular structure for both HIV 1 &2 , even HIV2 infections tend to produce p24 antigen, which is why duo test is said to be conclusive at 4 weeks.

What were your opinions on these.
Just being a curious reader here :)
doctor
Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (18 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
It is right but not possible always.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Eddyqwerty,

It is true that HIV 2 can be detected by Duos test but not all the times. As I said it is very rare in XXXXXXX it is not important to detect HIV 2 in Duos test but it is very important that the test will not miss the presence of HIV 1 so avoid thinking much about HIV 2, forget about the episode and move on in life happily.

I already had a 3 and 4 week negative cmia duo test which were non reactive.
Also my exposure was very very minimal as suggested above.

Could a 6 week non reactive test be confirmative and i could stop being paranoid about the fear of std.
I feel perfectly healthy and have no symptoms.

Thanks a lot for your efforts.

Answered by Dr. Sunil Jangid (31 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
You need not to worry at all.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Eddyqwerty,

You are absolutely right that the exposure is very very minimal and two CMIA Duo test at 3&4 weeks are also negative so you can consider it conclusive as such but it is suggested in international HIV guidelines that you need to get tested again after 3 months to get 100% conclusive result so nothing to get worried or feared as the result will surely come in your favor.

Appreciate your nice guesture in helping me out with my queries.

I had a 6 week duo test which was negative. So had 3,4 and 6 week negative tests for antigen and antibodies.

I am pretty sure i have ruled out hiv1.
What do u think the chances of hiv2 with a low exposure of condom failure.
Are hiv2 antibodies detectable by 6 weeks?
Should i be much worried about hiv2?

No need to worry for HIV2.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Eddyqwerty,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic once again.

HIV2 is not prevalent in XXXXXXX so you need to worry about HIV2 at all and the test results for HIV1 are negative at 3, 4 & 6 weeks so you are definitely not at risk of getting HIV1 also. Calm down, forget the episode and move on in life.
