What Do My Lab Test Results Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Mar 2015
Question: I received a lab result 9 weeks past possible exposure to HSV.
HSV 1 IGG Type Specific AB less than .90
HSV 2 IGG Type Specific AB less than .90

HSV1/2 AB (IGM), IFA W/RFL to Titer
HSV 1 IGM Screen Negative
HSV 2 IGM Scree Positive (with a Flag A)
and below it says REFERENCE RANGE: NEGATIVE

Can you tell me what this means?
No numbers on the IGM tests.

I've seen in many posts that the IGM test is useless and shouldn't be used. Most of the posts are a couple years old so I'm not sure if the tests have improved or if I should disregard the IGM test as so many doctors have posted.

Brief Answer:
you had a recent HSV2 infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for posting your query.
Still IgG and IgM for HSV hold good. IgM for HSV2 positive indicates that you had a recent HSV 2 infection. When there is no manifestation, drugs will not help. Follow the advice of your physician for further guidance. Not to bother much about the positive result.
