What Do My Liver Function Test Result Indicate?

I am 41 years male and first diagnosis of chronic Hepetitus b in 1996. I have not taken any medicine since diagnosis. few month back i consult one of the renown consultant Transplant Hematologist with my blood report. That time my SGPT-39 u/i and Sgot-22 u/i, all liver profile was normal. He didnt suggest any medicine that your liver function is perfectly ok and not require any medicine but recommended periodic checking of liver profile test. Yesterday i have checked again and my SGPT is 55.36 and sgot is 29.44, alkaline phosphatase is 141.40 u/i (Normal is 53-128). All other Liver Profile is normal.
Is this figure is serious and need to start treatment?
You need further evaluation
Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.
I can understand your concerns
Your doctor has advised you for periodic test because at time of visit your SGOT and SGPT were normal and you hepatitis B was in inactive phase as SGOT and SGPt increases whenever it becomes active.
Now since SGPT are increased you should undergo further tests like HBVDNA (quantitative), HBeAg and Anti HBeab to know the complete status of virus.
Since your age is above 4o I will also recommend you to go for Fibroscan to see for the liver stiffness or fibrosis if any. If there is fibrosis then treatment is recommended. Treatment will also depend on the status of above tests also.
You can revisit your doctor and discuss about these tests for further evaluation
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you . Wish you a good health
