What Do My Liver Function Test Results Indicate?

We have done additional blood tests to rule out Hepatitis, cancer, etc. (I do not have those results back) and I am scheduled for an ultrasound of the liver this Friday..
My Doctor did advise me to not drink alcohol or to significantly reduce my intake. I don't believe I drink to an extent that would cause these kind of results to my liver, however the way my doctor spoke to me, seemed to indicate that it is mostly alcohol related.
I wanted to have a second opinion as to the severity of what the results show now, my doctor advised that continued habits that do not reduce these levels could essentially be fatal in 5-10 years if not rectified now.
Raised ALT may indicate liver injury.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM
Findings suggests raised ALT,AST and triglyceride level.
Raised ALT may indicate liver injury.AST is non specific and it increases in many conditions.
Increased ALT may be due to many reasons like hepatitis, alcohol intake(which your doctor has rightly pointed), altered lipid profile, medicines, auto immune causes etc.
It may be due to altered lipid profile in your case.
You may need clinical evaluation and investigations like viral markers(which You've already undergone), ultrasound of abdomen(which you're going to have shortly).
I suggest tablet Ursodeoxycholic acid(UDCA) 300 mg tablet twice daily for three months. It helps in regeneration of liver cells.
You should take low fat diet and take lot of fibers in the form of salad, vegetables and organic food.
Go for brisk walk regularly.
Also avoid junk/fried foods.
You may need statins like Atorvastatin and Fenofibrate combination tablet after the remaining evaluation by your local physician . It will control elevated lipid to some extent .
Don't worry , this is a common problem in adults now a days due to changing life style. This is generally a manageable condition.
Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.
Take Care
