                                            Question : Hello Doctor,
I have had high thyroid since 7 years now. I usually take thyronorm every day. I am 5 ft tall and about 53 kg.
During pregnancy I have taken thyronorm upto 88 mcg (which was 4 years back). Then to 25 mcg and for past 2 years I am on 50 mcg dose.
I had my thyroid tests done a month back and following were my reports:
TOTAL T3:TRI IODOTHYRONINE - SERUM 0.63
TOTAL T4:THYROXINE - SERUM 8.8
TSH: THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE - SERUM 5.04 µIU/mL
I have few symptoms as of now
1. Long periods and heavy bleeding
2. Often getting cough and cold
3. Mild throat ache while swolloing
What should be my course of action now ?
Thanks,
Shalini

                                    Brief Answer:
You have to increase the dose of thyronorm
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mrs XXXXXXX
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
I hope you are taking thyronorm regularly.
While on treatment the TSH has to be maintained between 0.5 and 3 miu/ml. If you are planning another pregnancy it has to be below 2.5 miu/ml. So you have to increase the dose of thyronorm.
The next dose after 50 is 62.5 mcg. You can take it for 2 months and repeat the TSH to see if it is in target. If it is more than 3 you have to again increase the dose to 75.
Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.
