What Do My Trans-abdominal Pelvic Ultrasound Scan Test Results Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 1 Sep 2016
Question: This is the result of my transabdominal pelvic ultra sound. Endometrial stripe appeared thickened measuring up to 7 mm transversely. No free fluids in canal or cul-de-sac. Vascular flow in both ovaries. The right ovary measured 2x2x1.2. The left ovary measured 1.2x1.1x1.3. Scattered echogenic foci suggestive of calcifications were seen in both ovaries. None specific calcifications in both ovaries. No dominant soft tissue masses detected in either ovary. Had this test done because of post menopausal spotting. What does all this mean in layman terms. Are calcifications cancer??? Can't find much about this.

Brief Answer:
Endometrial biopsy should be done

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
I have reviewed your ultrasound report.
Scattered focal calcification in the ovaries is due to the postmenopausal age changes. It is not due to cancer.
Ovarian size is normal.
The cause of postmenopausal bleeding is thickened endometrium which should be less than 4mm in a postmenopausal woman.
You should get an endometrial biopsy done to rule out endometrial hyperplasia and endometrial carcinoma.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
