Question : Hello! I went to the ER this afternoon since i was in a minor car accident and wanted to take appropriate precaution to ensure the baby's health and wellbeing. During this ER visit, they did an ultrasound and they found the baby to be doing very well with a heartbeat of 150bpm (measuring 15 weeks and 2 days), they did indicate that the cervix is normal length of at least 4.6 cm. However there is mildly dilated endocervical canal with small amount of fluid. Is this something to be concerned with? Can this cause miscarriage and or preterm labor or is it nothing to be concerned about if my cervix is still closed and of appropriate length. Im worried sick.

                                    Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The mild dilatation of endocervical canal with a mild fluid can predispose to a premature labor. This can be decreased with adequate rest and avoiding any heavy work. If there is no major lower abdominal pain then there is no need to worry.
Since the cervix is still closed, it is likely to reduce with rest.

Good evening thank you so much for your response and for the peace of mind when I went for a follow up ultrasound today they said they think I have a hemorrhage but yesterday at the ER they said definitely no hemorrhage. Ultimately my final questions are What can be causing this small amount of liquid build up in my endocervical canal and can it be harmful to the baby ? Can fluid in the cervical canal cause the cervix to further dilate and cause a 2nd trimester miscarriage ? They have scheduled my next ultrasound to take place on August 30th to follow up on the fluid. Anything to be majorly concerned about ?

You need to take rest.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
A mild pain in the uterus can cause this fluid in the cervical canal. It can precipitate a preterm labor if the pain persists. Just take rest and avoid any heavy activities.
Hope my answer is helpful.
