What Do My Urine Test Results Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 May 2016
Question: Hi

My urine report shows pus cells 14/ ul & epithelial cells 19 / ul. Rest all is normal. No bacteria, no protein no other finding. I do not have any pain or frequency or burning while urinating. Though I have mild burning on my prepuce and glans. What could it be?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Possibility of urine infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The pus cells are on the slightly higher side. While the epithelial cells do not matter, pus cells could suggest infection. Ideally, you should have a mid stream sample of urine analysed for infection by culture and sensitivity. If there is indeed infection, the count of more than 10000/ml is usually significant and might warrant antibiotics therapy. A lesser count could be due to colonisation and need not be treated unless you have symptoms. If there is persistent infection, you will require further testing for ruling out diabetes, urine outlet obstruction, but there are very few chances of those at present, especially at your age.
Hope I have been of help.
