Posted on Wed, 20 Sep 2017
Question: I have had a lump appear under my armpit around a month ago, I have not had any other symptoms. I have swapped using roll on deodorant and I do shave a couple of times a week. It feels like it is under the skin and is painful to touch if I touch it. I have had lumps under my arm pits before, can you sometimes have one that never disappears? Thank you I am quite concerned

Brief Answer:
Abscess is the most probable reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Thank you for the query.

Most likely this lump is an abscess due to infected hair follicle. In some cases such lump can didappear by its own. However usually there is a need to drain it.
That is why, it would be good to visit a surgeon and consider its incision. Antibiotic might be necessary as well.

Hope this helps.
Regards.

It is not a cancer

Detailed Answer:
If it is superficiam and painful it is not a cancer for sure.
Yes it can disappear by its own. However if it is large, will give a lot of pain and general symptoms like fever and chills.

Thank you. Can an abscess hang around or will it disappear on it's own? I was concerned as a lot of what it says on the internet is that it could be cancer.
