What Do Palpitations After Taking Adderall Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Jun 2015
Question: I took adderall for the first time after a week of not taking it & started having some heart palpitation sensations in chest. EKG and blood tests showed everything is fine but the doctor did find what he called a premature ventricular contraction. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
At your age, this’s likely incidental and you should not be bothered at all

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this palpitation and the finding of a premature ventricular beat. I have reviewed this information fully and am not worried about this. At your age, thesis most likely an incidental finding than something that represents a disease and more attention to get it treated.

For now, stay calm and only monitor to see if you would feel anything abnormal again. Unless something else comes up, there is no need for any further medical evaluation for this.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Thank you for your response. So given that my heart tests came back very good, i shouldnt have to stop taking adderall just because of the occasional PVC's? (Like i said ive only had them since ive taken adderall again for the first time in a week, & this has never been a problem). Do you think it is just my body adjusting to the medication again?

Brief Answer:
To me continue the medications and monitor your body!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I think it could have been the body adjusting to the medication. What would makes this a problem is if it fails to resolve spontaneously. A one time observation of an abnormal heart beat is not enough to show your heart has a problem. Consistent information over time is needed to make this justification.

Stopping adderall at this time is not called for. Continue the drugs and report further concerns for evaluation. If needed, we would make the decision to stop in future should your symptoms fail to resolve.

Let me know if this works for you. Until then, I wish you well.
