Question: Hello, I have had a weird thump and whooshing butterfly feeling in my chest off and on and pretty frequent throughout the day that is worrisome and uncomfortable. Went to urgent care and EKG was normal. I have had a lot of belching as well but not sure if it is coincidence or related. Should I go to ER?

Brief Answer:
Acid reflux, asthma or heart arrhythmia should be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such strange feeling can be caused by heart arrhythmia, acid reflux or/and asthma.

Heart arrhythmia can appear suddenly. Strange thumping and noodles like feeling can be sensed. It could not show up in EKG. Its because this test gives only a short time information about heart rhythm. Quite characteristic for this kind of issue is that when you take a deep breath and hold it, the arrhythmia can be stopped.

Asthma and acid reflux are conditions which very often appear together. Asthma can cause kind of itching and wheezing in the middle of the chest. Cough is very often present.

Acid reflux gives burning in the middle of the chest. When you take a nip of lukewarm water, you should be able to feel few seconds relief.

For heart diagnostics you should have 24 hours Holters heart monitoring.

For asthma, you should consult pulmunologist and have blow test done.

For acid reflux, antiacids should be tried first.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Would Acid reflux possibly cause the thump/flutter feeling in my left chest area? I am constantly belching as well and have a needle feeling in my left chest area as well. I have also had a rapid pulse 96-130 for the last few nights that wakes me up in the middle of the night but my pulse is fine during the day. I do not feel nauseous or dizzy, tired or faint so I am really confused on what to do.
Not sure if you got my last response to your answer but I forgot to add that when I get a flutter or thump in my chest my heart/pulse skips a beat or feels like it stops for a second.

I'm still waiting on a response to my last 2 posts. I am also feeling a tightness in my throat area. Can Acid Reflux cause that as well?

Brief Answer:
Heart arrhythmia seems most probable

Detailed Answer:
I do not think acid reflux can cause symptoms like heart beat skip. So this makes heart arrythmia most probable. You should start with Holters 24 hours heart monitoring for sure. Please consult cardiologist.
