What Do Skin Rashes Indicate While On Keflex For Treating Cellulitis?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Nov 2017
Question: hi my son was put on Keflex because he had a cellulitis in his leg from poison ivy reaction. He had a reaction to the Keflex for he developed a rash. We went to the ER today and they put them on clindamycin and prednisone. This evening it seems like the rash has worsened. Thoughts? He has no symptoms other than the rash. Cellulitis is still a problem though

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I understand that keflex or clindamycin should help in controlling the infection which is the likely cause of the cellulitis. But prednisolone can sometimes make the situation worse. That could be the reason for the flare up of rashes. I would request you to upload image of the affected areas. It will help me to evaluate the condition. However, it could also be due to an allergic reaction. Taking some antiallergic like cetirizine or benadryl should help. You could also apply some emollient like calamine lotion or some moisturizer like aloe vera lotion.

I would await your response based on which I will guide you further. Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
