What Do Sudden Episodes Of Eyes Becoming Fixed Suggest?

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Aug 2015
Question: Hi I will occasionally have an event where I am aware of my surroundings and the sons or inputs and if I am doing a repetitive task, ie. Sanding a price of wood, I will continue to do SD o Howevrr; I stop processing the inputs, my eyes become fixed, ie. They do not move or change focus, and 'freeze'.

When it is over I am fully aware of what just happened.

What may be causing this?

I recall it happening when I was around 5 years old but it has not happened since until recently. I am 58 now.

Thanks for the reply.

Possibility of epilepsy

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Welcome to health care magic forum.
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
The history of episodes given by you seems to be compatible with absence seizures or complex partial seizures.
The age of onset is around 5 years of age then the possibility of epilepsy is there.
Do you have any other seizure types like tonic clonic, myoclonic.
Any history of loss of consciousness, tongue bite , frothing, fall.
Are you on any treatment.
Please provide detail regarding previous investigation like EEG or MRI.
You can visit a neurologist for proper evaluation ,advice and treatment.
Hope you found the answer helpful .

Dr.

To clarify. I had these events around age 5 but have NOT had any events for the past 53 years, until this past couple of weeks.

Also, during the event I am fully aware of my surroundingstuff and after the event I am fully aware are of wh add to just happened.

This does not fit with the description of am absence seizure.

No meds, not eye flutter. No lip biting, no figure pulling or twitching.

I stop responding to inputs. I may be aware of some asking me a question but can not respond. As soon as I come out of it I know what the question was, I know I did not answer it, and wi8 then reply without further prompting.

Thank you for the response.

Durations are hard to quantify. I suspect it is on the order of 20 to 30 seconds.
Have not tried to open or close month. No processing to tell me I need to.
Normal blinking. I am aware of that happening.
Hands they are doing what ever it was they were doing when it started. For example if I was sanding vertically then I mindlessly continue doing so during the event.
3 events over the past 3 weeks.
No investigation previously.
very little to no stress in life these days.

I have had a reticle change in diet that corresponds with this starting again. I use to eat large amounts of sugar products. And I completely stopped refined sugar intake and severely limit natural sugar intake. (fruits).

My A1c was, before this started 5.1 and my blood glucose was 88. Even with all the sugar I had been eating.

I know that sugar is a key element in brain function, could this be the cause?

Thank you,
