What Do The Attached Blood Reports Indicate?
Results explained
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I carefully read your test results. I will explain the results but i would like to mention that it is always safer and better to interpret test results in the clinical picture, meaning knowing if the patient has any symptoms and which is the reason they did the test.
The red blood cell indexes are within normal limits (these are the cells that transport oxygen and also give the red color to the blood)
The white blood cells are mildly increased with dominion of lymphocytes. White blood cells are cells that fight infection and lymphocytes are the ones that generally fight viral infections.
The platelets (the fragments that are responsible for blood clotting) are mildly elevated, very small deviation from normal levels and is not considered a problem. It is common to have slightly elevated platelets when white blood cells elevate or when the body is fighting an infection.
So to conclude i would say that:
1. there are minor changes in your blood results, do not seem dangerous and do not tell us something important is happening
2. mild elevation of lymphocytes and platelets is seen which might be due to a possible common viral infection you are going through
3. it is best to interpret those in your clinical context, meaning that if you have specific complaints or symptoms you need to let us know
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
I'm worried about elevated lymphocytes - could that be CLL or Small lymphocytic lymphoma?
Thanks,
No clinical issues - feeling fine.
I read that elevated lymphocytes may indicate CLL (leukemia) or lymphoma, my tonsils have been enlarged - overall I feel fine...is that the issue? what is the cause of the lymphocytosis? (given I feel fine and strong)
It is very unlikely it is CLL or SLL- please read further in detail
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Thank you for your reply.
I understand your concern related to the possible causes of high lymphocytes. In your case the level is so mildly reduced that is nothing to worry. At the moment it can be easily explained with a common viral infection.
On the other hand to make completely sure it is related to a temporary condition like a viral infection it might be advisable to repeat the test in 2-3 weeks (not earlier) and see how the results will be. If there is increase in the number of the lymphocytes (which to my opinion is very unlikely but i am mentioning just for the sake of being on the safe side) than you will need to consult a doctor.
We are also willing to help you interpreting the results if you can make them available to us when you repeat them.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
