Brief Answer: XXXXXXX chances of converting in cancer are low if precaution are followed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi There.
Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Have gone throug your details and appreciate your concern.

As per your query-

Barrett's esophagus is a serious complication of GERD, which stands for gastroesophageal reflux disease. In Barrett's esophagus, normal tissue lining the esophagus
- the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach changes to tissue that resembles the lining of the intestine.Only a biopsy can tell whether the newly formed tissue is cancereous or not.

Scientists have found several factors that affect your risk of cancer of the esophagus. Some are more likely to increase the risk for adenocarcinoma (Most commonly associated with Barrett)of the esophagus and others for squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus.

Most effective way to prevent progression of XXXXXXX esophaus in cancer is to control GERD and acid reflux as best as one can.

If reflux of stomach acid into the lower esophagus goes on for a long time, it can damage the inner lining of the esophagus. This causes the squamous cells that normally line the esophagus to be replaced with gland cells. These gland cells usually look like the cells that line the stomach and the small intestine, and are more resistant to stomach acid. This condition is known as Barrett’s (or Barrett) esophagus.
The gland cells in Barrett’s esophagus can become more abnormal over time. This can result in dysplasia, a pre-cancerous condition. Dysplasia is graded by how abnormal the cells look under the microscope. Low-grade dysplasia looks more like normal cells, while high-grade dysplasia is more abnormal and is linked to the highest risk of cancer.
So as apparent from above discussion the more the acid injures esophagus the more are the chances that XXXXXXX esophagus develops and further progresses to carninoma.
So in lay mans language stop acid reflux and prevent metaplasia(development of cancer).

Treatment suggested is.
Start taking Proton pump inhibitor like Rabeprazole in combination with Domperidone(prokinetic drug stopping GERD).Once daily in morning empty stomach.
In the evening time take H2 blocker(acid formation blocker) once daily like Famotadine.
These drugs will inhibit the production of acid and would be effective in reducing reflux of acid in esophagus.
Take an antacid daily 2table spoon with half cup of water thrice daily before food. They form a coating around the mucosa hence prevent irritation of mucosa by acid.

Along with these medicines a drastic life style change has to be done,
-No alcohol or Tobacco.
-Eat light food low in spices and oil and easy to digest.
-Avoid egg yellow,Red meat,Burger pizza etc.
-If possible take normal food in lunch and take a raw vegans detox diet in dinner.
-Eat two cups of cold milk twice daily it neutralise acid
Stop advil and tramadol they have no role in this case.

Start above mentioned things till biopsy results are with you.
Regards.

Can I get the above antiacids without prescription?

I have given up alcohol, spicy food etc..but I have to take the Tramadol and other meds due to..Fibromyalgia, IBS and neuropathy. Should I just take Meds with milk and then a Tums? I'm also on gabapentin that I forgot to mention. My gastroenteroligist only gave me a prescription for the generic of prilosec 40 mg taken once a day! And says wait for the biopsy..

WHY? he doesn't know or care I guess. I'm going to get my MD to get the others for me I guess...IS there something I can get over the counter that will work as well.?? Thank you..

Brief Answer:
You need a prescription for prokinetic drug like Dompeidon.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Tramdol is not hoing to cause acidity so yes you can take it.
Advil(Ibuprofen) is going to cause severe gastritis hence is usually not taken in GERD but in case you have to take it then take it with 2 tsf antacid so that harm caused could be minimised.
Yes you can have meds with cold milk.
Tums is good but if possible try to get a prescription for Mucaine gel.Mucaine Oral Gel contains Aluminium Hydroxide, Magnesium, and Oxetacaine as active ingredients and results will be much better with Mucaine gel.

You have to wait for biopsy to see if its just XXXXXXX esophagus or has advanced to carcinoma.
Get a prescription of above mentioned medicines from a MD.Just taking a generic one will not help.
In case you want over counter only then make Prilosec twice daily but Domperidon 30 mg has to be taken along with it (which is not OTC).

Regards.
