Question: Hi,
I recently opted for a comprehensive health screening.
I would request to please analyse the reports and let me know if everything looks good .In the blood tests there are few results like the number of Monocytes, Eosinophil etc which are higher than normal. Is it ok or we should consult a doctor.

Brief Answer:
Follow the Advises..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Welcome to HealthcareMagic,

I've gone through the attached reports of your husband, however first of all, please note that even in the health-check-up reports also it's mentioned as "28/F".

Yes majority of them are within normal limits only, however few parameters are deranged there including severe Vit D3 deficiency along with intermediately elevated homocysteine levels and Vit-B12 deficiency.. since you've mentioned it's your husband's report, then the testosterone level is within normal range only..don't worry about those fractional changes in eosinophil & monocyte..

I couldn't find any reports of the electrolytes, so if not done, then please get serum sodium, potassium and 'Calcium' (most importantly) done at the earliest..

Vitamin D3 60,000 IU Once a Week for next 12 weeks (available in both Capsule as well as XXXXXXX form, please check with your local pharmacy for availability), you can take it with or after meals.. You need to have prescription from your local physician for this..

After completion of 12 weeks, Vitamin D3 1000 IU (available in both Capsule as well as XXXXXXX form) Once daily for next 3 months..

Tab Calcium Carbonate or Calcium Citrate 500 mg Once daily after food for next 3 months.. (All these are prescription based medication, so please get the appropriate prescription from your local physician)..

A good multivitamin, (eg. Cobadex-Forte) should also be started once daily after breakfast for next one month..

You need to get the Vitamin D3 level and serum Calcium levels checked after this to decide on further course of action..

If there's any history of alcohol consumption, then it's the right time to stop it.. Start getting around 10-15 minutes of sunlight exposure in the morning time (in between 8-10am) daily as it'll help in natural synthesis of Vit-D in the body..

Foods i.e. Milk (fortified, available in all big supermarkets and dept. stores) and milk products like yogurt, buttermilk, cheese etc., hard boiled eggs, lean meat like chicken, fish(mainly sea fish eg. sardine, tuna, herring, cod etc.), ground nuts, mushrooms, sesame seeds, almonds etc. along with avoidance of red meats (once a week consumption is fine) will be beneficial.. also try to replace your regular wheat/flour containing foods to whole grain/whole wheat products..

It'll be better to schedule an appointment with an Internal medicine specialist for a thorough clinical check-up to look for any underlying symptoms (also s/he will provide you with the necessary prescriptions for the same and any further medications accordingly)..

Avoid junk foods, processed foods(burger, pizza etc.) and packaged fruit juices, try to eat fresh seasonal fruits instead..avoid smoking, if at all do.. Drink plenty of water(3-3.5 ltr per day), staying well hydrated is extremely important too as it'll not only help increasing the body's metabolism but also helps to flush the toxins out..

It's a gradual process, so please follow these above mentioned advises to yield the maximum benefits..

I've tried to make it as simple as possible for you to understand, let me know how he stays in the due course..

Take Care
Kind Regards

Hi Sir,

After reading, it seems like a alarming situation.
Can you please help me in understanding how the deficiency of Vit D and B12 affects the body and what does the elevated levels of homocysteine indicate.
My husband is a vegetarian .

Brief Answer:
nothing alarming, just follow the advises, he'll be fine..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Welcome back,

No nothing alarming here, early diagnosis and prompt management is always advisable to avert any future complications..

Just follow the advises, schedule the appointment with the internal medicine specialist and get started on the necessary treatment as already explained in my previous answer..

Symptoms of vit-D deficiency are numerous, ie. Fatigue and generalized weakness, Weight gain, Bone fractures, Joint pain (most noticeable in the back and knees) , Muscle cramps and weakness, Low immunity, Low calcium levels in the blood, Mood changes and irritability to name a few..

Elevated homocysteine level directly won't show up in the person (except in some cases pre-mature ageing), but it's a risk factor for developing blood clots in the circulation, atherosclerosis and several other coronary and cerebral vascular disorders..

Most notably, none of these symptoms and signs may be present in the person, or only few, but that can be determined only after clinical examination, and regardless of the findings, necessary treatment should be initiated as already explained..

Hope this is understood now, no need to worry, just follow these instructions, and do the needful, rest assured he'll be fine..

Take Care
Kind Regards
