Question: Hi!

 

I am 33yo, non-smoker, active, no illegal drug use, little to no etoh consumption, no recent travel, no exposure to toxins, regularly vaccinated.

I have been someone who keeps getting sick every couple months which usually ends up with a hospital visit and an antibiotic of sorts for the last year or more.

Each time I will have elevated WBCs, a cough (which I've had chronically for over a year), each time it has seemed lung related but the doctors haven't been able to give me a diagnosis.

Some history:

·      I've had a chronic cough for over a year, probably years.

·      Heart Palpations

·      I suffer from headaches

·      I get unexplained rashes that go away within a day

·      White coated tongue with red spots

·      get out of breath with brief or extensive exercise with tachycardia (was diagnosed with asthma years ago but inhalers have no effect and lung function tests are normal)

·      My hair started to fall out 8 months ago and I've lost half my hair volume, lost 10lbs in a month

·      Lack of appetite for last 8 months

·      TSH normal

 

I got sick with what was thought to be bronchitis in Dec 2016 with pericarditis like symptoms

·      elevated WBCs and hemoglobin (treated with prednisone, and NSAIDs)Troponin normal, CRP normal, ECG unremarkable

 

Got sick again in feb 2017 with sinus bacterial infection

·      elevated WBCs (treated with amoxicillin)

 

Sick again in may 2017 which started with shivering/fever episodes, brain fog, severe coughing fits

·      (treated for asthma) no to little effect

 

a week goes by and I continued to get worse, elevated fever and then my lymph node under chin and in armpits swelled. Saw in hospital again

·      elevated WBCs and elevated hemoglobin (treated with strongest dose of amoxi-clav)

 

I was then told to see my family dr who sent me for more blood work up:

·      ANA: negative

·      Rheumatoid factor: negative

·      Ferritin: Normal

·      C Reactive Protein: abnormal, elevated


From May to today my fever persists nightly, starting at 9pm and spiking around 11pm around 37.7-38.0 Celsius each night, occasional night sweats, Dr found swollen lymph node in armpit again.

I was then sent again for more blood work that I’m yet to have done:

·      Serum protein electrophoresis: Normal

·      Immunoelectrophoresis: Normal

Now doctor has asked me journal my fevers and symptoms and is sending me for more tests:

·      Urinalysis

·      Alatine aminotransferase

·      Albumin

·      Calcium

·      CRP again

·      Magnesium

·      Immglob IgG, IgA,IgM

·      Hep B

·      HIV

·      Carboxyhemoglobin

·      Methemoglobin

·      ECG

 

Looking for insight as to what the possible cause for these symptoms and lab results could be leaning towards.

What would cause the high hemoglobin levels, elevated CRP, constant illnesses with elevated WBCs and the persistent fever?
