Question : Hi I have been to an ENT clinic today for a repeat "scope" - something thin was pushed up each nostril. I had previously had a pituitary MRI scan which showed a squashed Pituitary. The doctor now wants to do a biopsy of the adenoid pad. Is this a cause to worry about e.g. cancer. What does this all mean for me. What symptoms should I look out for..

Hi XXXXXXX thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. The doctor's advise to biopsy the adenoids could be due to many reasons like

: Some mass lesion due to chronic infection e.g. fungal
: Bengin tumor
: Nasal polyp
: Cancer
: Hypertrophied mucosa

So it is not necessary that it is only doubt of cancer. If cancer is the cause, then you will be having

: Bleeding through nose, painless, spontaneous
: Foul smell
: weight loss
: Loss of appetite
: generalised weakness
: Large mass obstructing the nostrils
: Rapid growth of the mass

In case of fever, pain in nostrils, pus discharge, long duration of symptoms, history of allergy, cancer is unlikely.
