Hi doctor
I got married 9 months back , since last 3 cycles are irregular and then I consulted a doctor and he has conducted pelvis examination and found that I have PCOD complain and its begin stage and they suggested for treatment
For past 40 days I am suggested to take Metital tab and weekly once gapgolin tab , then last week is my mensural cycle but luckily it's delayed for 4 days then I tested UPT and found positive , I tested 3 times and it's positive only so I consulted the doctor since I am working in abroad
Then the doctor asked me to stop taking Metital and take these tables for next 3 months
1. Tab gapgolin - next 3 months ( 1 time per week )
2. Tab SUSTEN 300 - everyday bed time for 3 months
Is there any side effects because of this to baby ?
Why should I need to take this ?
Stopping of metital is ok ?
Please advise sir

Brief Answer:
No significant side effects....

Hi,
I apologize for the late reply. I was away from my computer and couldn't access internet last night.
Well I could see you have had a fair amount of useful discussion with a gynecologist and I agree with her opinion. Therefore I think I'll just add some theoretical information to answer this question here.
1. PCOD is associated with various hormone changes. I am sure those hormones were checked before PCOD diagnosis.
Since you were on started on capgolin I assume you had a high prolactin value. High prolactin is known to cause low progesterone which can cause early pregnancy miscarriage. You are asked to continue capgolin and susten to improve progesterone and prevent early pregnancy miscarriage. Hence you should continue to use those two pills as long as the treating gynecologist deems it necessary. Report issues of spotting or bleeding immediately.
2. The aren't any serious side effects to the developing baby. Contrarily, they are going to benefit the developing baby.
Besides the two medicines I would also guggest starting folic acid in the dose of 5mg per day. If your thyroid hormones weren't checked before the diagnosis of PCOD was done, it is recommended that we check thyroid hormones too.
3. Metilal was prescribed to make correct hormone changes of PCOD, to regulate period and to help you ovulate better. It doesn't add any more benefits now after you have conceived. Therefore stopping it is ok.
I am happy you have conceived. I wish you good and safe pregnancy.
Let me know if you need any more information.
Regards

Hi doctor
Thanks for the detailed explanation , actually we did blood check yesterday ( on my 39th day ) ,
my results are as follows,
hcg 5562.76 mIU/ml
progesterone level is greater than 40 ng/ml
And the doctor suggest to do ultrasound test in next monday ( which will be on my 46th day )
The doctors said results are normal
Please need your opinion as well on the blood test ?
Is that the ultrasound test is save to do ?
Am i still need to take folic acid tablets ? Instead can i take any specific foods / vegetables / fruits please advice ?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Folic acid tablet is recommended....
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
hCG level should show gradual rise with pregnancy. 39th day is about 5 and half weeks of pregnancy. I would say hCG levels are ok at this stage. So is progesterone level too. Continue to use those two pills. It will benefit in maintaining pregnancy and preventing miscarriage.
First ultrasound scan is timed around 7th week of pregnancy which is close to the date your doctor suggested. It is absolutely safe. You need not be worried about its safety. We can discuss about this scan further next week after the scan test. There is an option to upload reports and pictures on this page. It is very handy feature. If you wish you can upload report and discuss about it with the gynecologist.
Folic acid is important vitamin during pregnancy. It helps in neurodevelopment and prevents neuro-defects. Fortified cereals, spinach, broccoli, beans are few dietary options to supplement folic acid. However I will insist you take folic acid supplement (tablets) even if you are on folic acid rich food.
Hope I have answered all your question.
Regards

Brief Answer:
hCG value and progesterone value cannot predict any further....
Detailed Answer:
Unfortunately neither hCG nor progesterone level can predict ultrasound report.
First trimester ultrasound scan has three important roles:
a) to locate the site of pregnancy - within body of uterus (intrauterine) or elsewhere (ectopic)
b) to record fetal cardiac activity (viable pregnancy or not)
c) to predict expected delivery date (EDD)
With normal hCG and progesterone level only assures us to remain positive. Only ultrasound scan test can give us details about those 3 parameters.
