Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: What extent of injury do these findings from MRI. Injury occurred at work after physical attack and taking fall. I'm in Law Enforcement. I'm in pain 5-7 chart level. My knee hurts a lot when I walk, run, kneel, sit, stand, crouch, or do daily activities. My wrist hurts when picking up items such as a gallon of milk, typing, writing, cooking, cleaning, brushing teeth, cleaning self, in shower and on toilet, putting on shoes, opening refrigerator door, or opening heavy doors, hurts while griping, hurts when wrist is in twisting motion. This is second injury of my wrist in 4 years and I never felt that it healed 100%. These are the findings of WRIST : There is nonspecific subcutaneous edema (series 5 image 21).

Mild increased signal intensity/edema is seen at the peripheral attachment of the TFCC on the ulna

(series 3 image 9). Degenerative fraying may be present in this location.

There is a slight ulnar minus variance.

IMPRESSION:

Mild increased signal intensity/edema is seen at the peripheral attachment of the TFCC on the ulna.

Degenerative fraying may be present in this location.

These are the findings of KNEE: Edema is seen within the infrapatellar fat, posterior to the patellar tendon, laterally. This is a

finding which can be seen in the setting of Patella Tendon - Lateral Femoral Condyle Friction

Syndrome. Correlate for patella tracking abnormality (series 7 image 21, series 4 image 23, series 8

image 20, series 3 image 15).

The Patella is laterally located at the patellofemoral joint, with lateral tilt, and at normal

height (series 8 image 15).

There is partial thickness patellar cartilage erosion centrally (series 8 image 13). No subjacent

subchondral edema identified.

There is moderate osteoarthrosis (series 5 image 12).

There is a joint effusion.

There is edema at the articulation of the posterior lateral tibia, with the fibular head anterior

medially (series 7 image 22, series 4 image 7, series 8 image 33). This is a nonspecific finding

which can be seen in the setting of motion/instability in this location.

IMPRESSION:

Correlate for patella tracking abnormality, as described above.

Osteoarthrosis.

Small joint effusion.

Do these findings merit disability?? How serious are these findings?

Brief Answer:
Can improve with conservative treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The findings in both knee and wrist are the inflammatory changes due to repeated stress and degenerative changes. The symptoms can be relieved with adequate rest, brace and a hot compress. Physiotherapy exercises can help after the acute pain subsides.
This does not merit a disability and does not require a surgical intervention. It is a minor disability and can improve on a conservative treatment.
I hope this answers your query.
