Brief Answer:
I fully agree with your doctor's opinion/advice
Detailed Answer:
Hi Mrs. XXXXXXX
Thanks for posting your query on this forum.
You have not mentioned whether the doctor had felt the
tumor on
digital rectal examination, or the tumor was detected on
ultrasound or, whether it was detected only on biopsy. Kindly give the details of the doctor's findings. It would be preferable if you scan the reports and upload them.
The treatment depends on the stage of cancer. The treatment is NOT recommended until a CETAIN STAGE is reached.
Further, the stage is determined by taking several factors into consideration, such as:-
* The extent of the primary tumor
* whether the cancer has spread to nearby
lymph nodes
* the PSA level at the time of diagnosis and,
* The XXXXXXX score, based on the
prostate biopsy.
With the PSA level being within normal limits and a borderline XXXXXXX score, I fully agree with the opinion of your husband's doctor. A normal PSA level either, rules out cancer or, it is in its earliest (pre-cancerous) stage.
Under the present circumstances, NO treatment is indicated unless the PSA rises above 20.
However, your husband requires a regular follow up, at intervals as determined by his treating doctor.
Hope I have addressed your concerns to your complete satisfaction and you find my response helpful and informative. I will be happy to answer further queries, if any.
Fond regards and have a nice day,
Col (Dr.) Rakesh Karanwal
