What Do These Following X-ray Findings Indicate?

Posted on Wed, 19 Apr 2017
Question: I Need a Pulmonology Doctor!!! Im driving crazy since I went to the ER and they found in a XRay a Sub-solid nodule 6mm in the lingula ... I repeat another x-ray in 15 days and this is what it says: A nodule is again seen at the left lung base which may correspond with the lingular nodule on prior ct (may also represent a vessel on end with the nodule seen on ct not seen on x-ray) what that means? A vessel on end?

Brief Answer:
No need to worry much for this nodule.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
6 mm nodule can be an accidental finding.
It can be
1. Simple nodule
2. Some scar
3. Vessel on end (blood vessel when cut longitudinal on CT plate can be seen as nodule like opacity)
4. Cyst
You should get done repeat CT scan after 12 months and compare the size of the nodule.
Please let me know if you are having any respiratory symptoms with it.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Hi Doctor no I don't have any symptoms... but 8 months ago I did a xray and I didnt have a nodule everything was ok.... also I did the ct scan 2 weeks ago and today I repeat an xray

This is what the comparation of the ct and the xray from today im going to write it for you

Comparasion: Outside chest xray 3/4/2017 and outside chest ct 3/6/2017
Findings:
Lungs: A Nodule is again seen at the left lung base which may correspond with the lingular nodule on the prior CT (may also represent a vessel on end with the nodule seen on ct Not seen on XRay)

Impression:
Nodule at the left lung base which may correspond with the lingular nodule on the prior ct.. see prior ct for recomendations

I would like to know what it means may also represent a vessel on end ? Please Doctor what that means

DR. This is the results of the first ct scan

Findings: The right lung is clear without evidence of infiltrate or pulmonary nodule.
There is a 0.6 cm partially subsolid nodule in the lingula. Otherwise the left lung is clear without evidence of infiltrate or pulmonary nodule

Brief Answer:
You need to get done regular CT scans for nodule size.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Sorry for late reply as I was out of country.
I have gone through both the reports.
Since you are non smoker and not having any respiratory symptoms, possibility of benign nodule is more.
Usual protocol for this kind of nodule is
1. Get done repeat CT thorax after 8-10 months
2. If nodule size is static or decreasing get done repeat scan after 12 months.
3. If nodule size is same or not decreasing then no need for further workup.
4. If in any follow up, nodule size is increasing then rule out malignant nodule.
In lungs, blood vessels run in all directions. CT images are nothing but a cut section of lung and vessels at particular place. So if vessel is running longitudinal and CT cut is perpendicular to it then I will be seen as round nodule. And this is termed as vessel on the end.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks. Again sorry for late reply.
