Brief Answer:
Fasting sugar above 125 (done using venous blood sample) denote diabetes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.

If Fasting blood sugar is done by laboratory method using venous blood sample then blood sugar level of 140 or 145 confirms diagnosis of diabetes.

If done by HGT (by glucometer) then it need to be confirmed by doing OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test) by laboratory method.

Once diagnosis of Diabetes is confirmed there may be need to start on medications depending upon your height, weight (BMI Body Mass Index), detailed physical examination, family history of diabetes and food habits.

Hope this helps you.

My G.p says that if your fasting is 130/140 but after lunch and dinner,it remains within 140, then medication can be avoided ! I walk 5 km 5 days a week and don't eat sweets, but my mother, brother and sister are highly diabetic! My 3 monty average is 6.9 and at times 7 also!
