Medicine and lifestyle changes will control hypertension and cholesterol
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
1. The heart rate in ECG is 78 beats/ minute which is normal.
2. Medicine SELMIN is not to be found on the commonly referred directory of prescribed medicines, however I guess it it a vitamin preparation and contains minerals.
3. Diet like green leafy vegetables, cabbage, bananas and mangoes might have been restricted due to high potassium content which affect the heart function.
4. Extra salt is to be avoided to control high blood pressure but minimum salt has to be ingested to maintain normal sodium level.
5. The main problems are high blood pressure and increased cholesterol and these require medicines to be taken. The cholesterol problem is in early stages but high blood pressure requires strict control.
6. Food control is important to have normal cholesterol and blood pressure. However, if she wants to have banana or XXXXXXX then once in a week she can have half banana or XXXXXXX Green vegetable can be given occasionally in small amount like you give a child. Ghee is to be completely avoided. Please use olive oil for cooking at home. Lifestyle modification plays important role in maintaining blood pressure and cholesterol within normal range. Medicines should also be given.
7. Since the recent tests are in the month of April 2014 therefore you can wait for 6 months before doing test again. Please continue medicines as suggested by the cardiologist. Any additional test like angiography is to be done later and only if required. If she has any chest pain or discomfort then please have her consult a cardiologist on emergency basis at any time.
Hope your query is answered.

Hypertenstion and cholesterol medicines are essential
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
1. The blood pressure is important for her and she should continue taking the blood pressure medicines. Two medicines are given for better control. With it extra salt is to be avoided. High blood pressure might become a problem if not controlled right now. It might affect kidney and eye at later stage. Therefore taking prescribed medicines is suggested.
2. Since cholesterol problem is in early stage, TONACT is a good medicine to control it. There are higher medicines but for now she can take what is prescribed and it will help her.
3. Calcium and vitamins are required in elderly women. If she is taking a complete balanced diet containing 1800 kcal daily including vitamins and minerals then supplements can be stopped but if she takes these supplements then there will be no problem. Gastritis is also common in elderly and that is the reason your doctor has given medicine to decrease stomach acid for her.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Please give any ONE tablet only as mentioned below
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
1. I meant let her take only A TO Z tablet which is given to most patients. It contains most of the required vitamins and minerals in elderly age group. The lycopene which is not there in A TO Z can be got from her daily diet in our country which includes common fruits and vegetables that are red in color.
2. If she does not take fruits and vegetables then we can give her another multivitamin called MULTIVITE WOMAN manufactured by Universal Medicare Limited and this contains lycopene which is not there in A TO Z. However I am not sure if it is available in XXXXXXX Please confirm name of medicine and company when purchasing
3. Lycopene supplement does not make much of a difference in XXXXXXX diet because we eat a lot of red fruits and vegetables.
4. In conclusion, she might take ANY ONE tablet, A TO Z or MULTIVITE WOMAN.
5. Lycowell is not necessary because it contains less vitamins and minerals than the other two medicines above.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek
