Question: I did a random check of my blood for TSH and FT3 and FT4. The results came out TSH 5.83 microIU/ml and FT3 2.6 pg/ml, FT4 1.44 ng/dl. One lab today where I went to have an ECG and PFT said they were high. What do you advice and suggest to me?

Brief Answer:
Subclinical hypothyroidism- needs treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.

Your diabetes is well controlled. Cholesterol and TG are high.
TSH high T3&T4 normal suggests subclinical hypothyroidism - a small decrease in thyroid gland function.

We treat sub clinical hypothyroidism in any of the following situations:

1. If cholesterol is high
2. Thyroid antibodies (a blood test) is high.
3. There is a thyroid swelling ( goitre)

Here your cholesterol levels are high. So you should be started on thyroxine (usually we start at 25 mcg). This will help to bring your cholesterol levels down and improve cardiac health.

In a nutshell, there is no real reasons to be overly worried about. However taking all the reports collectively, I will recommend you be started on thyroid supplement. It can be done after you visit your physician.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you
