Question: Hi,
This is about my father's eye condition. He is 62 years old and under diabetic medication with routine followup.

Recently he started feeling blurry vision with his right eye. On a closer examination himself he noticed that there is a dark shade in the field of vision
and when looked thru that vision is blurry. He consulted an opthalmogist and he asked to get OCT done and then Fungus Flourascentine angiography. Report shows he has age related problem with the right eye and a bit of swelling as per doctor. I have attached the report along with this.

Please let us know what are the best treatment options for this condition.

Thanks and Regards,

Brief Answer:
Mild macular degeneration.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Have gone through attached reports dear.
Age related Macular degeneration causes loss in the centre of the field of vision.
Blurred vision is a key symptom. The macula is the part of the retina responsible for clear vision in your direct line of sight.Macular degeneration is mostly related to a combination of age and environmental factors.Over time tissue in your macula may become thin and break down causing complete loss of vision in the effected eye.Unfortunately Macular degeneration can't be cured. However steps can be taken to help slow its progression, such as taking vitamin supplements, eating healthfully.Proper control of diabetes is required. Give him a lot of anti oxidants.

Proper follow up 6 monthly or yearly should be done.'
Regards

Thank you for your advise.
Yesterday doctor called my dad and asked to consult him immediately and he advised eye injection (avastin). Would this injection be helpful for this eye condition? Each injection cost around Rs.5000.

Brief Answer:
Follow up suggestions.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

Avastin contains a salt called bevacizumab. It blocks the growth of abnormal blood vessels in the back of the eye. Those blood vessels can leak and affect vision, causing vision loss from wet AMD .Yes it should be tried.

Thanks
