Question : Hello Doctor
My Wife , 27 years had a delayed menstrual cycle this month .Last date of her periods was 17/07/2017.
She does not have irregular MC in the past.
We visited a Gynecologist and the Doctor did several test which confirmed no pregnancy.
Ultrasound report gives possibility of PCOD with PID.Dr also said that thyroid is also on a higher side.

Prescription , ultra sound and other test reports are atthached.

Please guide me if we are in the right direction of treatment and what is the further course of treatment to be followed.
Please also let me know any specific precaution , care and diet to be followed.
Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
The treatment is correct.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
I have seen the attached reports. Your wife is getting the right treatment. She will have her periods after 7-10 days. The delay in periods is due to polycystic ovaries. She will need proper and regular treatment to help her conceive.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome is caused by a derangement in the action of insulin, a hormone that controls blood sugar. There is no cure to this as it seems to stem from genetic origin. All treatments are aimed at reducing the symptoms it causes ( anovulation, acne, excess body hair ) and also to prevent long term complications ( endometrial hyperplasia, heart disease, diabetes, cholesterol problems ) arising out of this.
As obesity is known to worsen the situation, lifestyle changes like diet and exercise is the mainstay of treatment and reduction of body weight even by 5% helps at least 30 to 40% of women to restore their menstrual cycles. If this alone doesn't work, periods can be regularised by hormonal pills. In women trying for baby other drugs are used to induce ovulation. The treatment may have to be taken for a long term along with continued diet and exercise.
Proper diet consisting of low carbohydrates, low fat diet with plenty of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables s needed. Drink plenty of water. Do daily brisk walking for 40 minutes. Avoid junk food, pastries, colas. If she has PCOD she will also have diabetes so be very careful with her diet.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
