Question : Hi,
I am suffering from proloneged menstrual bleeding for last 25 days. I got scanning done today for pelvis as per advice given by my Gynecologist. The report says endometrium is 11 mm all other coordinates are normal. I have attached the reports for your reference. Please suggest what to do.

Since last MAy 2014 I suffered fro 6 months continuous on and off. Then I tool Pause and Femilon for 2 months it got resolved by December 2014. Then I got normal periods and again since May 2015 the problem has started. Please suggest what medication to take or what are the next steps.

Brief Answer:
Endometrial biopsy and mirena insertion advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your health concern.
In my opinion you should get Mirena insertion inside uterine cavity after an endometrial biopsy.
Visit your gynecologist and ask for endometrial biopsy for histopathological analysis to rule out any endometrial pathology because as you have been already bleeding for more than 25 days so by now the endometrial thickness should be less than 4 mm.
Also in case biopsy report comes normal then this is your perimenopausal transition which is many a times associated with menstrual problems and thus needs progesterone modulation for control.
Mirena is an intrauterine contraceptive device which has prefilled progesterone as a special drug delivery system and thus maintains a good constant progesterone environment inside uterus.
It therefore resolves menstrual problems and prevents cancerous changes in long term.
All the best

Hi Doctor,
Thanks for your time. Is this procedure painful. What would be the duration of the procedure.
How long will it take to recover from the same.

Any risk associated. Also could you kindly explain the mirena insertion.

Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Simple procedure

Detailed Answer:
Endometrial biopsy is painful but usually done under light anaesthesia.
It takes 5-10 minutes and there is usually no post operative pain or risk.
Mirena insertion is a simple procedure and is inserted like per vaginum examination.
This is safe and best approach for you in my opinion, rest you can discuss with your gynecologist.
