Question : Dr. The test shows on 11 Sept as typhi O (TO) as 1:40; typhi H (TH) as 1:40; paratyphi A, H (AH) as 1:20 and paratyphi B, H (BH) as 1:20.

We conducted the same test on 21st September and the results are: typhi O (TO) as 1:80; typhi H (TH) as 1:80; paratyphi A, H (AH) as 1:160 and paratyphi B, H (BH) as 1:20.

What do those readings mean and why so much of difference with in 12 days. Presently my son who is 10 years old is on Sefixime 100 mg twice a day. Please do advice as the fever comes and goes. Thank you sir

Brief Answer:
Titers suggest ongoing typhoid infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.

I understand your concern.

I have gone through the reports you attached.

As per the results, there seems to be a four fold rise of titers wrt to H antigens, particularly wrt to paratyphi A.

This can point to Typhoid infection caused by Salmonella paratyphi A.

H titers are more significant than O titers.

The increase in titers particularly happens in the 2nd and 3rd week of illness.

You need not worry of this elevation much.

Also, your child is placed on a right antibiotic Cefixime.

You can expect your child to become normal soon.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
