Question : Good Morning! My son is 5 years old (going on 6) and very recently I noticed that his eyes do this weird movement thing..it's not constant but it is almost always when he is watching TV and I asked the teachers if they noticed it at school and they said he does do it a few times there as well (not sure if he is doing anything specific when it happens) Anyway..both eyes will get wide and go back down a couple of times and then dart to the side. It is very weird and hard to explain (I have a video of him doing it while watching TV if that helps) Anyway..it is very worry some to me. I made an appointment with an eye specialist for next week but my mind gets away from me and now I'm wondering if maybe it's not his eyes but something tied to the brain or something? Like I said he just recently started this and it has been happening for days now on and off at random times. Just didn't know if this sounded like a medical condition of some sort that you ever heard of or saw before. I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Causes may be several.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Strange eyes movements are a well known fact in children and causes may be several, most of them harmless conditions.

If there are no other symptoms besides these weird eyes movements, such being unresponsive for few seconds, not remembering what happened, the condition is very unlikely to be related to brain dysfunction.

If there are also certain head positions during these eyes movements, the problem is probably related to misalignment, lazy eye, etc.

Other conditions that may be related to these strange eye movements are eyes tics, stress, etc.

However, evaluation by the eye Specialist will give the necessary information about the cause, and if there is need for further investigations and consultations.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Kind regards.
