What Do Weight Gain And Painful Periods After Removing Mirena IUD Suggest?

default
Posted on Mon, 26 Oct 2015
Question: I am 5"2, 40 years old and weigh approximately 110 lbs on a good day. I work out a minimum of 4 days a week and watch what I eat. About a year ago I had the Merina IUD removed and noticed that after I did I gained weight and my periods got more painful. Could having the IUD removed co tribute to my weight gain and painful periods? I'm struggling to fix the issue and simply want to feel as amazing as I did then...

Brief Answer:
Not due to removal of IUD

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Removal of Mirena IUD will not cause weight gain or pain during the periods, rather having Mirena IUD in the uterus causes painful periods and weight gain, due to the effect of the progesterone hormone it contains.
Weight gain can be due to hypothyroidism, diabetes or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). You should get yourself investigated to confirm the cause.
Pain during the periods can be due to pelvic infection, fibroid or adenomyosis in the uterus.
I suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined, investigated and treated accordingly.

Wishing you good health.
