What Does 40% Stenosis Of Vertebral Artery On MRI Report Indicate?
Question: I am diagnosed with hemiplegic migraines& absent for months. The droop starts with a twitch, it can come with stress sometimes &/or a migraine. BUT NOT MORE THAN 20% of the time. I was jumped 18 years ago and beaten somewhat on my left side. around when this started. MRI/V/A shows possible 40% stenosis although ultrasound says no. what can this be, how concerned should i be? I am beginning to freak out- last for seconds to no more than 2 minutes.

I have noted your symptoms and investigation reports.
First of all, I would like to reassure you that there is no need to worry as you do not have any serious neurological problem.
You have symptoms of TIA- transient ischemic attacks- leading to the current symptoms. Aspirin should be continued. I usually give aspirin at a dose of 325 mg per day.
In addition, if you get frequent headaches, you should be started on an anti-migraine drug to reduce the frequency and severity of headaches. These include topiramate, divalproex, etc.
40% stenosis of vertebral artery on MRA is not significant and aspirin would take care of that.
You should also be on statins to keep cholesterol within normal limits and prevent further TIAs.
