Question: I am a regular drinker and I drink around 150 ml. a day. Now my GGT level is more than 200. Is there any factor other than alcohol that might be responsible for such high reading, and what should I do?

Brief Answer:
Alcohol is most specific for elevated GGT

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

40 % of alcohol in quantity of 150 ml translates to five standard pegs and it is beyond recommended safe limits. I mean to say that you have the heavy consumption which is enough to explain the elevated GGT levels.

In addition I also like to make it clear that isolated GGT elevation is very specific to alcohol consumption and I do not think other factors can be blamed for same.

I also like to add that other factors need to be considered such as cardiac illness, diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia, toxin exposure as cause of elevated GGT as some elevation can present in multitude of conditions but very rarely to the level of 200.

Undoubtedly you need to stop alcohol as remedies for deranged liver function.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks and regards.
