What Does A PSA Level Of 100 In A Prostate Cancer Patient Suggest?

Question: My father had prostrate cancer (original psa level 23) four years ago. He had brachytherapy and 8 weeks of radiation. afterwards, psa was <1. and stayed between 1-4 the next couple of years. Last year it was 7 and just today his blood tests came back and the lab said his PSA was 100??? Is it possible to jump 93 points in a year or could there be some mistake or other cause? My father took a second test today and it still came back 100.

Brief Answer:
yes that is possible

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Unfortunately with an aggressive form of prostate cancer the PSA can increase very rapidly especially if there is metastasis to other parts of the body. His doctors will want to do some further testing to see if the cancer has spread. I am very sorry that he has had this results. I wish him great success in treatment of this recurrent cancer.
