What Does A Hard Bump On Base Of Skull Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 28 Nov 2014
Question: I have had throbbing pain in the back upper part of my head that has lasted 2 weeks. The pain would last for only a few minutes , on a scale from one to ten, being a 10. After this severe sharp, throbbing pain would go away i noticed i still had a dull ache in the back of my head that would throb if I bent over, yelled, or coughed. I have noticed my eyesight is blurrier when I try to focus on things in the distance, for example I cannot read the tv guide on the tv when I am sitting on the couch and I have also had a thumping sound in my ear when I hear car keys clang or sliverware. I have had migraines in the past, but these headaches are different. The last 5 days I have not had this severe pain, my head has been ok. What could this be? I am worried a tumor, but wouldn't the pain be constant and not go away if it were? In addition, I have noticed 2 years ago a pea size hard bump at the base of the middle of my skull by my hair line.. it is not moveable or squishy. It is hard and has been there for 2 years.. any correlation?

Brief Answer:
Status migranus/refractive errors/sinusitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting the query and an elaborate history.

After going through the description and understanding your problem, I am of the opinion that you could be having the following problems which requires a complete evaluation.
1. Status migranus
2. Refractive errors with glaucoma
3. Cervical spondylitis
4. Sinsuitis

You will require a complete examination of the eye, nose, spine and brain to rule out the actual cause of your problem. Hence consult your doctor at the earliest.

I doubt any tumor in the brain or spine. And, the pea sized lymph node you have noticed over the back of the head is not related to the present condition.

Hope I have answered your query; I'll be available for the follow up queries.
