Question : My 15yo old son went for a physical and when they did his blood work his liver enzymes were very elevated. The Dr then sent him for an ultrasound and diagnosed him with an enlarged liver and wants him to see a "liver specialist". What is a liver specialist?

Brief Answer:
Gastroenterologist and/or hepatologist!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this elevated liver enzymes. That alone is no major issue and we need to follow up to make sure it is a sustained increased and nota single observation as many factors including alcohol can cause the liver enzymes to be increased. However, with the aid of an expert, we will for sure dissect and tell what the exact problem and plan to address this is.

A liver specialist are commonly known as gastroenterologists or Hepatologist. Either will do and will establish a great plan to help address your sons abnormal results.

Keep me posted when you finally get to one and let me know what the fndings and treatment plan is.
