What Does A Lump Between The Eye Socket And Temple Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Apr 2014
Question: I am a 15 year old boy. Yesterday i found a small, immovable, hard, and stationary lump that appears to be attached to bone between my left eye socket and my left temple. The lump itself has bone-like qualities (hard, stationary, etc.) Based on what i have read, it appears that this is likely some type of cyst. Can you confirm this, and if so, does this need to be removed for health reasons, or only if it becomes a cosmetic concern? Thanks so much!

Brief Answer: It looks like Sebaceous cyst. Detailed Answer: Hi Thank you for posting in health care magic. As per your description, it looks like Sebaceous cyst. Another cyst , dermoid cyst occur during early childhood. It will be soft to firm, but not hard. There is no medical treatment for the cyst. If it is increasing in size, you can get it removed. Sometimes, it gets infected and become painful. I prefer you to consult a general surgeon and get it removed as the scar will be small now. Nothing to worry. Wish you good health Regards

Thanks for the response! The bump itself is hard and i can not move it--it feels like the bump is part of the bone. Is this going to cause problems...or should i leave it alone?

Brief Answer: Eventhough it is hard,it cannot be bony growth Detailed Answer: Hi Eventhough the swelling is hard and not moving,it cannot be bone.Even Sebaceous cyst will be hard and fixed to the underlying structures like bone.It feels like a bony growth. Simple investigations like X ray and Ultrasound will confirm that the growth is arising from bone or not. If it is a Sebaceous cyst or bony growth,it may grow. Please consult a General surgeon, confirm the diagnosis.Clinical examination by General surgeon will also give clue to the diagnosis. Please come back with Surgical consultation and reports.I will clarify further Regards

Ok. About an hour ago I went to the dermatologist. I usually go to the dermatologist for my acne. I wouldnt consider my acne severe, but my face does break out occasionally. So, today, the dermatologist injected all of the pimples on my face with what I believe was cortisone. I also told her about the lump that I told you about. Without feeling it or examining it, she said that it was a cyst and that the injections will get rid of the cyst "quickly". It has been about an hour, and the lump has not reduced in size, nor have the pimples subsided. Is this normal, and if so, how long will it take for the lump to disappear?
