What Does A Lump On Shin Bone After Injury Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jul 2015
Question: I got hit by a cricket ball about 6 weeks ago and still have a big lump on my shin bone. I am not feeling 100% either as feeling a little sick in the stomach recently, and want to make sure it isn't cancer. Thanks. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Hematoma seems to be the most possible reason.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please attach a photo of this bump? Does it get larger?

The only reason to concern is a rapidly growing lump which has appeared after an injury. If this lump is not getting larger since the injury, cancer is hardly possible.
However this lump can indicate blood collection called hematoma. Due to veins rupture, the blood has appeared outside the vessels and accumulated in soft tissues.
Large hematoma wont go away. Moreover it can get infected and turn into an abscess. This can be the reason of feeling unwell.

The best you can do is to have an x-ray and soft tissues ultrasound of this area. In case of hematoma, it should be drained.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
