What Does A Purple Lump On Shoulder Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Feb 2015
Question: I went to a chiropractor about 4-5 days ago and an hour after I went I noticed a bump on the top of my shoulder near my neck. It looked like my vein was popping up and it hurt to touch. The next day it went away. Now 3 days later I have a very big dark purple circle where that bump was and it hurts to touch also, I am very nervous that it is a blood clot or something serious.

Brief Answer:
It is blood under the skin.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

It seems to me like blood under the skin from a ruptured subcutaneous vein.j

It is not such serious condition to make you feel nervous.

Local application of heparin contain cream should help blood absorption.

It may take approximately three weeks for your skin to get back to normal.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Hi thank you for your answer. Is it a bad thing at all that blood under the skin from a ruptured subcutaneous vein? Should I just go about my normal days and wait for it to heal?

Brief Answer:
You should wait till it heals.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, and thanks for asking back.

Except for the discomfort and cosmetic issues, it is not necessary to worry too much.

You should be aware not to hit that area, not to get pressure on it and keep it clean.

Heparin containing creams should help accelerate the healing process.

Hope this helps.
