What Does A Red And Painful Bump On The Lip Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Oct 2018
Question: I have had a sore spot under my nose for several days. Very sharp pain, almost like a sticker is there. At first there was no sign of anything, now it it red and another raised hump has come up on my lip. My mouth is sore inside, rather achy around part of my gums and I can feel a lesion at the roof of my mouth. No fever. A slight headache. I am 70. I work out regularly at a hospital gym. I think I might have picked something up there.

Brief Answer:

Furuncle, oral and topical antibiotics, anti inflammatory drugs

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

According to your complaints you seem to have developed furuncle which is a bacterial infection of the hair follicle.

You need to take oral and topical antibiotics.

If I was your treating doctor I would recommend you to take tablet cephalexin 500 mg twice daily and apply mupirocin cream to the affected area twice daily for 7 days.

For pain, you can take anti-inflammatory medicines like tablet Ibuprofen.

Antibiotics are prescription drugs and you need to see the doctor in person to get them.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

My gums were hurting so much last night that I went to the dentist this morning, He said I am having an outbreak of the herpes I virus. I haven't had a cold sore in decades, but I had chicken pox when I was 15. So the virus is still present he says. It is not called shingles because it is mostly in my mouth.
Thank you for trying to help with the information I gave you.
