What Does A Skin Lesion On Leg Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Sep 2014
Question: Hello ,
I was / am writing for a skin lesion on my leg-

I noticed it 3/4 weeks ago. It has stayed the same size . It doesn't bleed, itch or anything along that nature .
In may I had a lower body skin check by a dermatologist - all clear
August I had a upper body check by a dermatologist - all clear
August - female physical - all clear
Feb/march I had a pelvic ultrasound
- I went to my primary doctor last week for lesion and she said it was / looks benign and that she could freeze it off if I wanted her too. I asked for a referral for a dermatologist since she didn't know exactly what it is. I went to the dermatologist today. She didn't know what it was either and decided to biopsy it. She said I shouldn't worry but I beyond worried. I attaching some photos and would some insight from another dermatologist to help hopefully ease my mind. My huge fear is cancer! Please help

Brief Answer:
Not a serious lesion, wait for biopsy results first

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for sending in the photos.

I have gone through them and I've noticed as following:
- there is a rash (redness) of that area - has it been there always or since when did you notice it?
- you use to shave the hair in your legs, I believe, and you did it a few days ago (as I noted). Usually, shaving is always associated with skin problems (infection).
- is your skin dry? Dry skin is also prone to such skin eruptions.

At the end, I do not think it is related to anything serious. I advise to wait for biopsy results to be in and not to worry unnecessarily.

Hope my answer is easing your mind!

Hello ,

I noticed it about 3/4 weeks ago by chance- I do not think it was their prior also when I had my lower done in May they didn't see anything abnormal- I use body way to shaved legs. I can shave over it with no problem whatsoever. I think my skin is pretty normal- I get some dry spots in typical areas. When I first noticed it I picked it and it scabbed bit since then or has stayed the same. My fear is non pigmented melanoma. Also why didn't my dermatologist know what it is ? My primary felt it was benign - can you give me anymore reference what you feel it could be ?

Brief Answer:
No sign for non-pigmented melanoma...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

You are saying that when you first noticed it, you "picked it and it scabbed bit". This is exactly what I have doubted since the beginning. To my opinion, you have been scabbing it more than once. This has made it difficult to heal.

Now, your dermatologist wants to make sure you have nothing. That's why he/she ordered biopsy to rule out any abnormal skin lesion.

With regards to non-pigmented melanoma, it takes some time to develop and not within a few weeks. You are reporting that the skin lesion has remained the same for this time, without further changes. From what I have seen, there is NO:
- asymetry
- border irregularities
- other changes in color or consistency or involvi

Do not feel under pressure! Just wait for the biopsy results first!

Brief Answer:
Not serious...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through the changes during these weeks. I do not think it got big changes.

Getting pinkish is not indicating anything serious. To my opinion, it is on its way of healing. It might remain as a scar tissue due to repetitive scabbing.

I do not think it is serious. Let's wait until the biopsy results.

Let me know how it goes.

Brief Answer:
All the best...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back dear,

Thank you for following up.

Thankfully, it was just inflammation. This is what we have thought since the beginning. As you have been scabbing it, you did not let it heal completely.

Do not think over it anymore. Enjoy life!
